Last month, I wrote a “RAP wrap-up” of some of the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) reports and blogs that we published in March. My plan was to continue this as a monthly thing, so here we go: a look back at April.
First, we announced a big leadership change at RAP and a new chapter for growth. That’s all covered in the following blog:

In terms of big reports, we published our “Clean heat standards handbook” in Europe. Clean heat standards are an innovative solution that can drive decarbonization efforts, and policymakers worldwide (including in several U.S. states) are looking into developing these standards. Our handbook examines the pivotal role clean heat standards can play in climate policies, and how they can be effectively implemented. Congrats to authors Marion Santini, Samuel Thomas, Richard Lowes, Duncan Gibb, Richard Cowart and Jan Rosenow for this huge team effort.

We kept busy in the blogosphere this month, too. We published the first part of a blog series we’re working on with CLASP about how heat pumps are effective in cold climates. Vivian Cox covers the history of heat pumps and how they have become a key clean heating technology in colder regions. (Part 2 will be published very soon.)

Shawn Enterline, in his first blog with RAP, writes about how utilities in parts of the U.S. are looking to meet electricity demand by building more gas plants. But with current market and supply issues, is this a good idea in the long term for regulators?

There were other articles we contributed to this month that came out in various publications. Check out our feed for links to all of those.
And while this is an April post, I do want to call attention to an upcoming webinar happening this Thursday. Our colleagues Carl Linvill, David Farnsworth, Nancy L Seidman, and Shawn Enterline will be presenting on the fundamentals of tariff design for the transition toward 24/7 carbon-free electricity. Register here and join us on Thursday, May 2: https://lnkd.in/e7HErcir
Finally, I wanted to draw attention once again to our annual Impact Report, the first one we’ve completely digitized. This is a great look at RAP’s global efforts in 2023. We’ve been promoting it this month and we’ll continue to do so into May since it is chock full of great stuff. Huge congrats to everyone who helped put it together, including Rebecca Wigg, Donna Brutkoski, Molly Caballero, Olivia St. Denis, and Christina 'Steena' Williams.

That’s it for April. Onward to May!
